Submission Preparation Checklist
Before Submission
All submissions must meet the following requirements.
- Ensure alignment with the Aim and Scope.
- Confirm originality (not published/submitted elsewhere).
- Understand the funding model and academic fraud policy.
- Understand conflict of interest policy, download, complete (every author) and upload conflict of interest declaration form with each submission.
- Authorship criteria: In line with the ICMJE recommendations, authorship should be based on the following 4 criteria:
- Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
- Drafting the work or reviewing it critically for important intellectual content; AND
- Final approval of the version to be published; AND
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
General Instructions
- Language: British English.
- Structured abstracts (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion).
- Formatting:
- Original Research (4,000 words)
- Systematic/Narrative Reviews (6,000 words)
- Methodology papers (4,000 words)
- Brief Communications (2,000 words)
- Editorials (4,000 words)
- Letters to the Editor 1,500 words
- Basic Translational Research (4000 words)
- Double-spaced, 12-pt Times New Roman.
- Word limits:
Referencing Style: Vancouver
- Numbered citations (e.g., (1, 2)) and NLM-standard abbreviations. Commas or full stops should come after the in-text reference.
- DOIs where available in the format: https://doi.org/10.5114/hivar/171613
- Limited self-citation: Less than 20% of references.
Submission Guidelines
- Submit via Open Journal Systems (OJS).
- All articles must be submitted online at https://gshh.cecr.com.ng/submission
- The metadata of all authors (including the names, affiliations, email addresses, and ORCID ID) is required and must be appropriately entered.
- In case of technical difficulties, send an e-mail to team.gshh@cecr.com.ng
- The decision of the editor-in-chief and the editorial board, based on the recommendation of the reviewers, is final.

- Cover letter (optional)
- Title page: Manuscript title (Not more than 15 words), Author names (Surname, First name Initial), Author details (Full affiliation details, email addresses and ORCID ID) for all authors
- Cover Letter: Must include ethical approval and funding disclosures.
- Keywords: Provide four to six keywords, preferably Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) keywords

- Ethics Approval: IRB name and approval number.
Research involving human participants must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki and must be approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or equivalent ethical committee.
Studies involving animals must follow internationally accepted guidelines, such as those of ARRIVE or CIOMS, and receive approval from relevant animal ethics committees.

- Author contributions: Disclosed for each author
- Tables and Figures
- Labelled in numerical order with intuitive titles placed above (Tables) or below (Figures) in bold.
- Label must appear within text.
- Text and figures must be placed at the end of the paragraph in which the label first appears in the text
- Format: TIFF/JPEG/PNG (300 DPI).
- Legends: Self-explanatory, placed within the manuscript.
